Texas Water Development Board approves $2,200,000 to the Military Highway Water Supply Corporation (Cameron County) for wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN – (June 6, 2023) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $2,200,000 to the Military Highway Water Supply Corporation (Cameron County), consisting of $1,100,000 in financing and $1,100,000 in grant funding from the Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP). The Corporation will use the financial assistance for the planning, design, and construction of a wastewater system project.

In addition to the grant funding, the Corporation could save approximately $201,000 over the life of the loan by using EDAP.

With the financial assistance approved today, the Corporation will replace 11,000 linear feet of water lines along Military Highway in the Las Rusias service area and align them farther from the highway to facilitate future maintenance and repair work. The project will increase the reliability of the main distribution line and protect the health and safety of the Corporation’s customers.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
